The holiday season was over and people were making their healthy new years resolutions when I decided it was safe to earn a visit to the mall. It was easy to locate a parking space right in front of what seemed to be the largest health food store on Earth.
With some time to kill while the wife shopped for workout clothes, I started reading a few ingredient labels to find out what was really in all those flashy looking, low carb meals formulas, protein blasters and so-called health beverages. OK, so that sounds very dull, but let me tell you it was an eye opening experience. It actually helped me enjoy the all Natural Food and health beverages at my online health food shop. Maybe this little excursion to the big health food shop in the mall will help you avoid some of the ingredients that are anything but all organic, or healthy, in many of the foods and drinks being sold there.
The first thing I discovered is that this big health food store at the mall really loves to market those improved vitamin water drinks. The brightly colored bottles were stacked high, enticing shoppers with all the low prices, the pretty colors and the dream of a natural health drink that actually tastes good. Well, I have tried some of the “enhanced water”, and I believed it not merely tasted awful, but the crystalline fructose (concentrated sugar) content has been greater than enough crap food in one bottle for me. Oh, and if your body may actually absorb the isolated sugars infused into the water, then you could get your $1.50 value of nutrition. Isolated vitamins which are not connected to a lot of natural, whole foods generally break down before the body can use them for fuel. On my trip to the health food shop I could see that there were not any whole food components listed on those fairly bottles of improved vitamin water drinks.
Here are some other components I found about the labels that I choose to avoid when Looking for wholesome, all natural foods and drinks:
Rather, I use stevia, the 0 calorie all natural sweetener.
Modified corn starch. Whenever I see the word “modified” I get suspicious about its true character.
Isolated protein – The body can’t readily digest most protein beverages because they’re usually made from “isolated” protein, which clogs the lymphatic system. Many athletes searching for nutrition who are working to build muscle upward are guzzling protein beverages without comprehending the consequences, or the actual needs of the human body. They are being seduced by images of wash-board abs and bulging biceps into thinking more protein is good. However, many experts agree it’s a myth that anyone requires that the elevated levels of protein offered in some of the muscle building beverage mixes. In fact, all that protein may be doing more harm than good.
Those are just a couple of the components I try to avoid in my constant quest for most organic foods and health beverages that are really healthy. Are there ingredients which you wonder about? I hope you will have as much fun reading labels as I did at the significant health food shop. Until then, look online for all natural foods and health beverages, and keep away from the mall. It’s scary there!
